Milestone maps that stay readable on a single page
How we draw programme timelines for portfolio packs so six concurrent projects still fit a leadership print.
Agency portfolios rarely fail for lack of dates. They fail when every workstream’s Gantt line is dumped into one crowded slide.
We draw milestone maps as horizontal lanes grouped by client programme, not by internal department. Each lane shows only gates that leadership can influence: kickoff, creative lock, client presentation, launch. Internal task bars stay in the project tools where managers already live.
Spacing matters more than decoration. Deep background panels with generous margins let the eye travel left to right without competing chrome. Serif labels for programme names and a quiet sans for dates keep hierarchy calm under dark luxury presentation lighting.
When a programme slips, we shift the gate marker and annotate the cause beside it rather than redrawing the entire lane. Leaders then see change without hunting through versioned files.
